Progesterone

This steroid hormone is produced in the ovaries and lays the groundwork for pregnancy. Each month, progesterone levels rise after ovulation and cause the uterine lining to thicken. If the month’s egg is not fertilized, progesterone levels drop and your period begins. If fertilization does occur, progesterone levels stay high to support the pregnancy, during which it also plays a role in that infamous skin “glow.” During other times of life, a healthy balance of progesterone helps to keep your skin clear, moisturized, and protected from the effects of stress.
