Made by the adrenal glands, DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) is what is known as a precursor hormone. It is the most common steroid present in the body and it’s important as it is used to manufacture other hormones, particularly estrogen and testosterone. Because levels dramatically decline with age, some theorize that DHEA may have anti-aging benefits, but more research is needed before this claim can be definitively made.
