Hormones Glossary
We talk about and blame our hormones all the time. But what do they really mean for our bodies and skin? As the body’s chemical messengers, hormones control everything from metabolism and development to reproduction and response to stress. Balanced hormones are essential to maintaining the healthy ecosystem needed to thrive. Test to find out how your personal hormone levels impact your wellness.
Stress & Mood Hormones
These hormones are responsible for your mood and natural response mechanisms (think fight or flight) as they impact brain chemistry and circuity. Other hormones have an indirect impact on mood because they lead to biological changes, such as estrogen in PMS or your Thyroid.
Adrenaline
Adrenaline is the key to your fight-or-flight response that sends messages to other areas of the body to be on alert.
Cortisol
Cortisol, the “stress hormone”, increases your blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and breathing, but also slows down other functions like your digestive and reproductive systems to prepare you for action.
Melatonin
Melatonin is responsible for regulating the sleep cycle and circadian rhythms.
Noradrenaline
Noradrenaline works alongside adrenaline to help the body respond to stress.
Serotonin
Serotonin is the happy hormone, the chemical present in the brain that helps to control your mood and emotions.
